Flower Child offers menu full of protein and veggies

Indy's newest healthy eatery offers a wide-ranging menu of salads, bowls, wraps and sides.
Driving the news: Flower Child recently opened its first Indiana location in Nora.
The vibe: A nicer, healthier Panera with more options.
How it works: You order at the counter near the entrance and take a number to a table. An employee will deliver your food once it's ready.
- On a recent busy Saturday afternoon, employees gave guests numbers while they waited to order and reserved tables for them. A nice gesture that eliminated the stress of finding a clean place to sit.
What I tried: The three vegetarian sides entreé ($14.50). If you, like me, want to try a little bit of a bunch of things, this is the way to go.
- I selected the kale salad, gluten-free mac & cheese and brown rice, but the menu offers nine other options, including kung pow cauliflower, roasted broccoli, yuzu brussels sprouts, roasted sweet potato fries and cauliflower "risotto."
- I also ordered the classic hummus with pita ($7.25), and added raw veggies (+$3.25).
The verdict: The kale salad, with lemon, roasted garlic, zucchini, parmesan and bread crumbs, was the clear winner. Even the small portion was filling and flavorful.
- The other sides and hummus were fine, but nothing to rave about. I'd be interested to try the avocado hummus next time.
- Pro tip: Grab a glass of the rose petal lemonade ($3.99). It's the right level of sweetness.
