Meet the Maker: Garrick "The Grik" Hargrove

• That mental roaming often leads him to mediums like sketching, writing and sculpting to give life to beings that embody his thoughts.
• He's also known as "the puppet guy," and has made multiple puppets for TV, movies and music videos.
• "These creatures evolve organically, often revealing unexpected facets of my own psyche as I engage with them," Hargrove said.

What he's making now: Hargrove is making sure his creatures are ready for a crowd during the final week of "Signals That Sound In The Dark," an exhibit at Herron's Basile Gallery that opened Nov. 13.

• The exhibit features a group of fuzzy characters he calls the Beat Scouts who curate the sounds of the world for our listening enjoyment.

What he's saying: "'Signals That Sound In The Dark' invites viewers into my inner world, encouraging them to recognize the unique creatures that inhabit their own minds and to consider their own responses to music and art and reflect on how sound influences their perceptions," Hargrove said.
