Notre Dame fans outnumbered in Orange Bowl crowd

As the Fighting Irish battle for a shot at their first national championship in nearly 40 years, they'll do it in front of a pro-Nittany Lions crowd.

Driving the news: Notre Dame heads to Miami this week as the slight favorite in their Orange Bowl showdown against Penn State.

State of play: According to StubHub data provided to Axios, Fighting Irish fans aren't making the trip with them. The number of Orange Bowl tickets sold to buyers in Pennsylvania is seven times higher than the number of tickets sold to buyers in Indiana.

Notre Dame vs. Penn State has an average sold ticket price of $478, per StubHub.

Zoom out: The hottest ticket of the CFP semifinal round is the Friday night Cotton Bowl game between Texas and Ohio State, which has an average sold ticket price of $663.

StubHub says Cotton Bowl sales outpace Orange Bowl sales by 45%.
Buyers from Texas have purchased 70% of all tickets for the Cotton Bowl, which is held in Dallas. Buyers from Ohio make up 5%.

What's next: Kickoff for Notre Dame vs. Penn State is 7:30pm Thursday on ESPN.
