From rematches to rivalries, there are plenty of must-see matchups on the Indiana Fever's 2025 calendar.
Why it matters: The Fever are coming off a historic 2024 season that reshaped WNBA fandom in the Circle City.
- The team kept the excitement up in the offseason with a Rookie of the Year win for Caitlin Clark and the return of Stephanie White as the team's new head coach.
The big picture: This week's release of WNBA team schedules came with the news that the league's 29th season will feature a record 44 games per team, up from 40 games the past two seasons.
- The league is also expanding — next season will feature the debut of the Golden State Valkyries, the first new team since the Atlanta Dream entered the league in 2008.
Zoom in: The Fever begin the season at home against the Chicago Sky on May 17 and add another chapter in the already storied rivalry between Clark and Sky forward Angel Reese.
- The WNBA seems to be pushing the competition between the superstars and their squads. The Sky is the only team the Fever plays five times next season.
- The new Valkyries will come to Gainbridge just once this season on July 9. The Fever hit the road to play them on June 19 and Aug. 31.
- The Fever will get four shots at the Connecticut Sun, the team that swept them from the first round of the 2024 playoffs.
Reality check: Despite taking the L in the playoffs, we did take the Sun's coach in the offseason.
The intrigue: One of the highlights of the schedule is actually when regulation play goes on pause in mid-July.
- The 21st WNBA All-Star Game will take place in Indianapolis on July 19, along with a weekend full of events and attractions.
What they're saying: "We are in the middle of a pivotal, transformational moment in the history of the WNBA and women's basketball, and we are thrilled Indiana will be the center of it all with the game's biggest stars on display during next season's All-Star Game," Mel Raines, CEO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, said in a statement.
Between the lines: As Indy continues to position itself as a hot spot of tourism in 2025 and become the capital of women's sports by 2050, expect to see the Fever positioned as a marquee summer attraction worth making a trip for.
What we're watching: How much time the Fever will spend in front of a national audience after last year's postseason push.
- The WNBA says its complete TV and streaming schedule will be released at a later date.
- Regular season tickets go on sale Dec. 17.
