The Indianapolis Colts will try to avoid being mauled by a Super Bowl favorite this weekend at home.
The big picture: The Detroit Lions (9-1) pushed past the Kansas City Chiefs as the betting favorites to take home the Lombardi Trophy at the end of this season.
Why it matters: Sunday is likely to be a long day for a 5-6 Colts team still searching for stability this late in the season.
- Last week they outlasted the New York Jets by 1 point to snap a three-game losing streak.
What they're saying: Quarterback Anthony Richardson — who returned to the lineup last week after being benched and pulled off late-game heroics to secure the W — said he is excited to once again lead the team at home.
- "Colts nation is always bringing the energy," he said Wednesday. "It's going to be fun to see how Detroit comes in here and plays to the level of the noise that we're going to bring."
The intrigue: In the latest NFL power rankings, the Colts moved up two spots to No. 20 out of 32 teams.
- Analysts said while Richardson wasn't perfect in his comeback, he played well enough to keep them in the playoff hunt with four winnable games left on their 2024 schedule.
- Yes, but: They don't see this Sunday as one of those winnable games. The Lions sit atop the rankings at No. 1.
What's next: Kickoff is 1pm Sunday.
