Why it matters: Enjoying nature is a form of stress release and can ward off depression, according to the American Psychological Association.
- That's important for anyone prone to winter blues.
The intrigue: Some places on our list of outdoor fun are open during the winter.
Yes, but: If you want to experience them sans snow boots, scarves and mittens, we recommend heading there soon.
🦧 Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park
The above-the-ground attraction at Eagle Creek Park is available for bookings on Saturdays and Sundays (and Black Friday!) through Dec. 1.

Cost: Zipline journeys start at $54.95 per person.
- The Forest EscAPE is $19.95 per hour.
🚲 Pickled Pedaler
See the city from the seat of a party bike, which rides rain or shine year-round but is probably best experienced before the snow sets in.
- The "pedal pub" stops at a bar or two along the way, allowing riders to warm up inside and out.
Cost: Bookings start at $325 for the entire bike, which seats up to 14 people.
🌊 Cataract Falls
Head an hour southwest of Indy to Cagles Mill Lake and experience one of the prettiest waterfalls in the state before it freezes.
- Do a loop around the three-quarter mile nature trail to see the covered bridge.

This quirky outdoor art park is free and open to the public year-round from dawn to dusk.
- Take a stroll around the 35-acre lake on a nature trail, which passes by the sculpture garden that includes the famed "Funky Bones" sculpture.
