Meet the Maker: Zola Lamothe

• Called "Unveiling a Forgotten Legacy," the exhibition uses set design and photography to shine a light on Black communities displaced by the development of the IUPUI campus in the 1960s.
• Lamothe worked with two families with ancestral roots on the near west side to recreate scenes of Black life along Indiana Avenue.
• She also hopes to release a photo book of the project.

Zoom in: Lamothe was awarded a 2023 Power Plant Grant from Big Car Collaborative and the Andy Warhol Foundation to develop the project.

• She was also the recipient of a 2024 Public Art for Neighborhoods grant from the Indy Arts Council.

What she's saying: "This has been a passion project of mine and has been one of the most challenging and equally rewarding things I've accomplished so far," Lamothe writes on LinkedIn. "This project is about reclaiming cultural spaces and most importantly starting conversations about gentrification, displacement, and how we can value cultural communities."
