This Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts face the Houston Texans (5-2), giving them another shot at a division rival.
Why it matters: In the 2024 season opener, the Texans squeezed past the Colts 29-27 to extend Indianapolis' Week 1 winless streak to 11 years.
- Before that, it was a 23-19 loss to the Texans in the final game last season that prevented the Colts from being crowned AFC South champions.
The big picture: A win over the Texans on their home turf would send a strong message and move the Colts (4-3) into a first-place tie with the Texans at the top of the AFC South.
What they're saying: Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson said while having the best record in the division is on the team's mind, it takes a backseat to executing and stacking their third W in a row.
- "We got some information on them because we played them before, but you've still got to prepare the same way because we don't know what they're doing in their meeting rooms," he said Wednesday. "We don't know what they're trying to scheme up or switch up. So, it's just preparing the same way each and every week and just getting ready for the game."
The intrigue: The latest NFL power rankings saw the Colts hold steady at No. 18 after their win over Dolphins last week.
- For Week 8, they hope to welcome running back Jonathan Taylor back to the lineup. He's been out the past three games.
- The Texans, meanwhile, dropped four spots to No. 8 after losing to the Green Bay Packers.
Flashback: The Colts lead the all-time series with the Texans 33-12-1.
