Summer is coming to an end, but there is still plenty of racing action heating up the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
What's happening: The Tirerack.com Battle on the Bricks returns to IMS this weekend, giving race fans a different flavor of competition than what goes down each May in Indy.
- Unlike the more uniform fleet of IndyCars that hit the track for the Indianapolis 500, the Battle on the Bricks is an International Motor Sports Association event that mixes and matches 18 different manufacturers across four different vehicle classes.
- That means you might see cars that resemble rides waiting next to you at a red light running against exotic and futuristic prototypes.
The intrigue: The main event of the weekend is the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, a six-hour race crafted to test endurance and skill.
If you go: Battle on the Bricks runs Friday through Sunday at IMS. Gates open at 8am Friday for practice, 7:30am Saturday for qualifiers and 8:30am Sunday for race day.
