As the Indianapolis Colts enter the third week of the 2024 NFL season, they are still looking for their first win.
Why it matters: Their next opportunity to secure a W is within reason as they host a 1-1 Chicago Bears team working through their own offense inconsistencies and a disappointing outing in Week 2.
What they're saying: Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson said maintaining a longer offensive possession and giving the team's battered and bruised defense more time to rest are top priorities.
- "Every week you're eager ... you're ready to do whatever it takes to win. It's the same mindset regardless of what happened last week," he said Wednesday. "It's in the past. We lost. Forget about it. We've just got to go out there and play to win."
Zoom in: In some bad news for the Colts defense, Pro Bowl defensive lineman DeForest Buckner was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury this week.
- The rest of the injury report includes safety Julian Blackmon, wide receiver Josh Downs, kicker Matt Gay, cornerback Kenny Moore II, safety Rodney Thomas and defensive end Laiatu Latu.
Setting expectations: The latest NFL power rankings saw the Colts fall two spots to 24th out of 32 teams with analysts noting how Indy's defense has been bullied for the past two weeks.
- The Bears, meanwhile, plummeted six spots to 21st following their 19-13 loss to the Texans last week.
- Their pain points are a shaky start for quarterback Caleb Williams and an offensive line that is having trouble protecting him.
Flashback: The Colts lead the all-time series with the Bears 25-19.
- Their last game on Oct. 4, 2020, ended with the Colts winning 19-11.
- Their most famous matchup is Super Bowl XLI. The Colts took that one 29-17.
