Don't overlook Turkish cuisine for vegetarian delights

While Turkish cuisine is, perhaps, best known for its meat-based dishes like kebabs and ground meat kofta, I'm here to tell you not to overlook the vegetarian options.

Lucky for us, Indy has an authentic Turkish restaurant right downtown.

Where to go: Bosphorus Istanbul Cafe

What to order: The appetizer menu is truly the land of plenty, chock-full of meat-free staples like hummus, tabouli, baba ganoush and (my personal fave) falafel.

I went for lunch, where the special is one appetizer and one entree for $16.95.
A huge basket of warm, soft pita bread was delivered with a plate of silky hummus.
That was followed by a dish of hearty and deeply flavorful veggie casserole.
Melt-in-your mouth eggplant is stewed with zucchini, bell peppers, carrots and green beans in a tomato sauce, served with a side of rice.

Open: 11am to 9pm Monday-Thursday, 11am to 10pm Friday, noon to 10pm Saturday and 4-8pm Sunday.
Lunch menu is available Monday-Friday, 11am to 2:30pm.
