Anthony Richardson cards in high demand

While Colts fans wait to see how he does on the gridiron this season, starting quarterback Anthony Richardson is already tearing it up on the trading card market.

Why it matters: Having one of the top graded cards of the 2024 offseason shows that collectors believe in Richardson's ability to make a major impact on the NFL in the future, and they want his rookie card on their shelves now.

Driving the news: According to data provided to Axios by Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), Richardson is the No. 2 most collected NFL player card with 68,000 cards graded from January to August.

He is second only to the man he will try to outperform Sunday — Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud who had 145,000 cards graded.
San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy rounds out the top three with 47,000 cards graded.
PSA is responsible for more than 75% of all the trading card grades in the U.S.

How it works: Grading is when PSA evaluates a trading card to determine its condition and value. Grading can only take place after a card has been deemed authentic.

There are 10 grades ranging from "Poor" to "Gem Mint."
Collectors must pay PSA for their cards to be graded.
