Devour Indy starts today, so I reviewed EVERY menu to find the best meat-free meals and deals in each part of town.
The big picture: Special menus are available at more than 100 restaurants in the metro area through Sept. 1.
π My thought bubble: I was so impressed with how many great vegetarian options there are to be found β nearly every restaurant had at least one meatless dish on the menu.
π Downtown: Union 50
What to order: Start strong with the warm burrata cheese, served with tomato sauce, basil and crostini.
- For your entree, get the tomato-saffron orzo, which comes with wood-fired mushroom, cipollini onions, artichoke hearts, basil, cheese and a chili crisp-black vinaigrette.
- Leave room for the tres leches.
Cost: $40 for the three-course meal
If you go: 620 N. East St., Indianapolis
- Open 5-10pm Monday-Thursday, 5-11pm Friday and Saturday and 5-9pm Sunday.
π« Midtown: Delicia
What to order: There's a great-sounding salad but I'm starting with the johnny cake βΒ a Venezuelan corn cake, whipped chive ricotta, hot honey, pickled shallot and orange supremes.
- Then get the chili rellenos, poblanos stuffed with roasted garlic and caramelized onion cream cheese, a Salvadoran tomato sauce and charred corn succotash and topped with crispy chili oil.
- Your meal finishes with a rhubarb flan.
Cost: $39 for the three-course meal
If you go: 5215 N. College Ave.
- Open 4-9pm Tuesday to Thursday, 4-10pm Friday and Saturday, 9:30am-1:30pm and 5-8:30pm Sunday.
π North: Juniper on Main
What to order: Start with the watermelon caprese, which swaps watermelon for the tomato but keeps the fresh mozzarella, basil and balsamic glaze.
- They have a very intriguing mac 'n' cheese on the entree menu, but I'm getting the sea island platter. It's got citrus black beans, coconut rice, sweet plantains and grilled asparagus, also with a balsamic glaze.
- There are four drool-worthy dessert options, but if you don't get the hummingbird cake, what are you even doing?
Cost: 1 three-course meal for $35 or 2 for $60
If you go: 110 E. Main St., Carmel
- Open 11am to 9pm Monday-Saturday.
π₯¦ South: Stone Creek Dining Company
What to order: Start with the house salad, which sounds more interesting than most with alfalfa sprouts and sunflower seeds, and then get the summer vegetable gnocchi
- Gnocchi is mixed with broccolini, tomato and corn and topped with parmesan, walnut breadcrumbs and a broccoli-walnut pesto.
Cost: $25 for the two-course meal
If you go: 911 N. SR 135, Greenwood
- Open 4-9pm Monday-Thursday, 4-10pm Friday and Saturday and 11am to 9pm Sunday.
π West: Siam Thai Cuisine
What to order: Start with crispy spring rolls and then βΒ and this is the best part β choose ANY entree you want. All of them can be made vegetarian!
- Personally, I'm going for drunken noodles made with tofu.
- Fresh wide rice noodles get stir-fried with your choice of protein, bell pepper, onion, carrot, green bean, mushroom, broccoli and scrambled eggs and finished with a fresh garlic and basil chili sauce.
- Save room for dessert. There are three options, including a fried banana with ice cream and a sticky rice.
Cost: $21.99 for the three-course meal
If you go: 302 Dan Jones Road, Suite 125, Plainfield
- Open 11am-3pm and 4-9pm Monday to Friday, noon to 9pm Saturday and Sunday.
