Meet the Maker: Bashiri Asad

• Asad says he took the lessons from the likes of Luther and Stevie and blended it with his own passion to create his take on "true soul music."
• It's a sound he has dubbed "IndySoul."

Zoom in: The best way to experience that sound is through his latest album "The Everyday SoulSinger," a seven-track, 30-minute project he released last fall.

• He also played shows at The Jazz Kitchen and the Indiana Propylaeum earlier this month.

What he's making now: Asad is hitting the road to play the Columbus Jazz & Rib Fest in Ohio tomorrow night.

• He returns to Indiana the following weekend to perform at the Anderson Black Expo Summer Celebration.
