America, h*ck yeah!
The big picture: Thursday is the Fourth of July, and there are plenty of ways to beat the heat, celebrate our freedoms and see some spectacular fireworks shows.
Downtown Indianapolis' Fourth Fest is back for a second year at the American Legion Mall.
- The street festival featuring live music, food trucks and kids zone starts at 6pm.
- Fireworks, shot from the top of the building at 500 N. Meridian, begin just after 10pm.
- The Indiana War Memorial Grounds and American Legion Mall are some of the best viewing spots.
⛈️ Threat level: The National Weather Service says showers, and possibly thunderstorms, are likely throughout the day.
- If necessary, Fourth Fest organizers say the event may be temporarily delayed if a storm is moving through or could be rescheduled completely to Friday.
- Weather permitting, the event would still include both the street festival and fireworks show.
Meanwhile, the marquee event on the north side is the annual CarmelFest community celebration, which kicks off Wednesday afternoon for two days of patriotism and partying in Carmel's Civic Square.
- The festival begins at 1pm and features a "CarmelFest Has Talent" competition at the Gazebo Stage at 2:30pm.
- The parade begins at 10:30am Thursday with livestream coverage via the CBS4 Facebook page.
- Fireworks synchronized to music on WHJE 91.3 start at 9:45pm.
🪑 Threat level: If you haven't already put a chair out, you may be too late.
- Yes, but: Any chairs in front of Flanner & Buchanan on Carmel Drive will be removed.
