Zoom in: Indianapolis was the 10th most polite city in the Midwest with a rudeness score of just 4.24, lower than the Midwest's median rudeness of 4.5.

• Evansville and Fort Wayne were the rudest cities in the region with scores of 5.82 and 5.71, respectively.
• The most polite cities in the Midwest were St. Paul, Minnesota; Overland Park, Kansas; and Naperville, Illinois.

Zoom out: Other study findings include 74% of Midwesterners saying they've apologized when they've done nothing wrong, 64% saying they wave to people they don't know and 41% saying they use the word "ope."
