A sweet start to the day at Java House in Carmel

Sometimes you feel like a nut, and sometimes you don't. When it's the latter, swing by Java House in Carmel's Midtown Plaza and order the Maho, a chocolate coconut latte.

  • It's made with coconut milk and topped with a combo of cold brew whipped cream and toasted coconut.
  • It can be ordered either hot or iced. Cost: $6.

My take: It's giving Mounds bar in a mug energy, and the coconut comes through loud and clear without being overpowering.

  • Whipped cream is optional, and going without reduces the level of coconut if you're looking for a bit more balance.

Yes, but: I don't even want to know the nutrition facts on this thing. Thankfully, Java House is right on the Monon, making it easier to walk off the guilt.

If you go: 145 W. Elm St., Suite 100, Carmel

  • Midtown Plaza hours are 7am-6pm Monday through Thursday; 7am-7pm Friday and Saturday; and 8am-6pm Sunday.
  • Java House also has locations in Broad Ripple, Fishers, Zionsville, Clay Terrace and off Mass Ave.
