Houston is a finalist to host the NCAA men's basketball Final Four again in the next decade.

Why it matters: Houston hosting the Final Four would reinforce our reputation as a host city for major sporting events.

It also brings in money. College basketball fans are willing to travel for the tournament and festivities.

State of play: The National Collegiate Athletic Association selected seven cities as finalists to host five men's Final Fours from 2032 through 2036.

The other finalists are Denver, Nashville, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas and New Orleans.

Flashback: Houston has hosted the men's Final Four in 1971, 2011, 2016 and 2023.

What's next: The selection process concludes next July with cities making presentations at a meeting in Naples, Florida, with final decisions expected afterward.
