Houston's football stadium has had three names in just a few months — but it is Reliant once again, complete with the sign put up yesterday.
Catch up quick: The stadium opened as Reliant Stadium in 2002 before becoming NRG Stadium in 2014. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it temporarily became Houston Stadium because FIFA doesn't allow corporate-sponsored venue names.
Conveniently, while the NRG branding was coming down for the World Cup, the stadium was preparing to switch back to Reliant. Now, the familiar signs are back up.
Between the lines: NRG owns Reliant, so the change keeps the naming rights within the same corporate family and Houston gets its original name back.
For many longtime Houstonians, it never stopped being Reliant.
The bottom line: The name game has been a little dizzying, but after 12 years as NRG — and a brief stint as Houston Stadium — Reliant Stadium has returned.
