Why it matters: 713 is a point of pride, thanks to hometown artists like Lil' Keke who helped cement that identity, making the numbers synonymous with H-Town.

As new area codes have been added to keep pace with the region's growing population, many longtime residents refuse to change their number to keep the city's original area code.
