Houston lands Freedom Plane Tour of America's founding documents

Driving the news: The documents will be on display to the public May 9-25 at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

• Entry to the exhibit is free, though tickets are required and are available only at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Members, however, can reserve tickets online and can attend an exclusive preview May 8.

Zoom in: Nine of America's founding documents will be on display, including:

• A secret draft of the Constitution from 1787.
• George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr's Oaths of Allegiance to the Continental Army from 1778.
• The Treaty of Paris from 1783.

What they're saying: Dirk Van Tuerenhout, HMNS curator of anthropology, tells Axios their previous work with the National Archives made the Houston museum an attractive place to host the documents.

• He said schools and libraries are already coordinating field trips.

• "We have a good indication that the word is spreading and that people are making preparations to come," he says.

What's next: The Freedom Plane, a Boeing 737 owned by the manufacturer and specifically outfitted to transport the documents cross-country, will land at Hobby Airport on Monday and receive a water salute after touching down.

• From there, the documents will be loaded on a transport vehicle and taken to the museum, where they'll be set up for display starting later that week.
