Egg banh mi and dumplings. The bao was long gone before I thought to snap a picture. Photo: Shafaq Patel/Axios
👋 Shafaq here! Sometimes you just need a bánh mì, and the ones at Bao Bao Banh Mi really hit the spot.
Dig in: Bao Bao Banh Mi is a fun Vietnamese spot filled with quick-bite staples.
Bonus: There are two locations, both right off the I-10 freeway, so if you're stuck in rush hour traffic and hungry (like I was in Katy), you can hop off for a fast, delicious sandwich.
What to order: The caramelized tofu bánh mì ($7.75) — classic, with a rich, slightly sweet flavor paired with the traditional carrot-jalapeño-cilantro filings.
While the bánh mì is more filling, the bao ($5.75) is really worth trying, along with the dumplings ($7.25). The bao was fluffy and pillowy, and it melted in my mouth.
If you go: 1127 Eldridge Parkway, Houston; 1223 Grand West Blvd., Katy.
