Toyota Center launches $180M renovation

Driving the news: Billionaire Tilman Fertitta's Clutch City Sports & Entertainment announced the Toyota Center Reimagined renovations this month.

• They include a new 20,000-square-foot atrium at the corner of Polk and La Branch streets welcoming fans into the arena, suite renovations, larger team stores and additional food and drink options.
• The work will also include upgrades to the arena's technical infrastructure, like fiber optic cabling, that will make large productions easier to attract.

What they're saying: The work will "ensure Toyota Center remains one of the premier sports and entertainment destinations in the country," Fertitta said in a statement.

The intrigue: The renovations coincide with Houston First's $1.4 billion expansion of the nearby George R. Brown Convention Center, which will connect to Toyota Center through a pedestrian plaza once complete in May 2028.

What's next: Construction will start after the Rockets' playoff run this year and is slated for completion in fall 2027.
