Fort Bend ISD is offering "Ramadan Meals To-Go" so students who are fasting can take school breakfast and lunch home to eat later, under a U.S. Department of Agriculture waiver approved for Texas.
Why it matters: It helps students observing Ramadan maintain access to school meals.
How it works: The meals are available on school days starting today through March 13.
The district says it couldn't start during the first two school weeks of Ramadan due to a late notice from the Texas Department of Agriculture.
Meals are provided to students who qualify for free or reduced lunch or who attend schools in low-income areas that provide free meals to all students. They can be picked up at the end of the school day.
