Several Houston-areahospitals are among the nation's best places to give birth, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2026 list, released yesterday.
Why it matters: Maternity care isn't created equal. And for families weighing one of the most important decisions of their lives, the difference between hospitals can shape outcomes long after delivery day.
State of play: U.S. News' ranking reviewed survey data submitted from more than 900 hospitals. It found 495 met its bar for "high quality" maternity care — a designation tied to lower intervention rates and better outcomes.
What they did: Hospitals were analyzed across numerous indicators, including lower rates of C-sections and episiotomies; unexpected newborn complications; "birthing-friendly" practices; and whether hospitals publicly report disparities in care.
