Why it matters: It was one of the highest turnout rates for Harris County in an odd-numbered (or off-cycle) election year, when voter apathy is its worst.
By the numbers: Over the last 20 years, an average of 13.8% of registered Harris County voters participated in odd-numbered elections, per Harris County Clerk's Office data analyzed by Axios.
The highest share was in 2015 when 20.5% of voters hit the polls.
The lowest? That happened in 2017, when just 6.7% showed up.
Harris County saw the highest number of voters participate in an odd-numbered election year in 2023 when 452,200 (17.5%) turned out.
What's next: Voters will soon head back to the polls for runoff elections in December and the March primary.
