All six Houston-area restaurants honored last year with a Michelin star retained their stars in the international dining guide's second Texas edition. There were no new local stars.
Why it matters: A Michelin endorsement, particularly a star, brings international recognition and shines a spotlight on Houston's wide-ranging dining scene.
- A star isn't guaranteed every year, so the six Houston restaurants that held onto theirs maintained the same high standards recognized last year.
State of play: The awards ceremony took place Tuesday evening at Houston's Wortham Theater Center — marking the second consecutive year the event has been held in the city. The guide features restaurants in the Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth metro areas.
- Three new one-star restaurants joined the list — two in San Antonio and one in Dallas. There are still no two-starred restaurants in the state.
Houston's one-star restaurants:
- BCN Taste & Tradition
- March
- Le Jardinier Houston
- Musaafer
- Tatemó
- CorkScrew BBQ in Spring
Flashback: Last year marked the first time the Michelin Guide rated Texas restaurants — a long time coming for the state's acclaimed dining scene.
Between the lines: Barbecue remains a defining part of Texas' Michelin identity, reflected in both the starred selections and the Bib Gourmand list, which added five new Houston restaurants this year.
How it works: A group of anonymous inspectors from around the world judged restaurants on ingredient quality, mastery of technique, harmony of flavors, chef's vision, consistency and value. Service and decor weren't considered.
Plus, special awards recognized achievements in sustainability, cocktails, young chefs, sommeliers and service, which went to Elliot Wood of Credence.
