Harris County has a relatively low share of folks who walk to get around, a new report finds.
Why it matters: Walking and biking can be healthier alternatives to driving, create less air pollution and make for better neighborhood connectivity.
Driving the news: Harris County saw just 7% of trips taken on foot, with the remainder taken by car, according to transportation data firm StreetLight.
The firm reports 0% of trips here were made on a bicycle.
Zoom in: StreetLight ranked U.S. counties with at least 150 people per square mile by their trips taken on foot or by bike compared to vehicles in 2023.
The top counties in the country all had active shares north of 35%.
Caveat: Transit trips aren't included in the report.
Reality check: Vehicles are dominant in most of the country, with active transportation accounting for fewer than 10% of trips in over two-thirds of the counties analyzed.
