👋 Shafaq here! Before catching a movie at Regal, I made a pit stop at Trendy Dumpling — naturally, for soup dumplings. But a few unexpected dishes caught my eye, and curiosity won out.
Dig in: Trendy Dumplings focuses on dumplings and Sichuan fare.
What I ordered: Mapo tofu ramen ($14) and chocolate soup dumplings ($8.50) aren't things I typically see at a Sichuan restaurant. My mind was boggled, so of course I had to order them both.
The Mapo tofu and ramen combo worked. It wasn't a soup, but the noodles were a good carrier for the saucy, spicy and mouth-numbing tofu. A tad heavy-handed on the peppercorns, but tasty and fun.
The chocolate soup dumplings made for a playful dessert — reminiscent of a Nutella crepe, but in dumpling form.
