Astros unveil new Space City jerseys

Driving the news: The Astros' Union Station team store inside Daikin Park is open from midnight Wednesday to midnight Thursday for a special 24-hour celebration of the release.

• Jerseys and other merchandise, including an all-new ballcap, will be available.

The intrigue: The Astros will wear the Space City jerseys during Monday home games.

• They'll make their debut March 31 vs. the San Francisco Giants.

Zoom in: The jersey features a chestplate logo reminiscent of the '90s-era star with "'Stros" strewn across.

• A patch on the jerseys sleeve takes the old Union Station logo — from when the site now occupied by the ballpark was a bustling train depot — and adds some Space City twang.
• The jock tag at the bottom of the jersey also features one of the most memorable lines from President Kennedy's Moonshot Speech, delivered in 1962 at Rice University: "We choose to do things not because they are easy, but because they are hard."

• The design of Houston's old City Connect uniform wasn't my cup of tea and, as a fan, seemed more of an afterthought than a celebration.
• This new design, however, hits it out of the park.
