Heartbreaks can be tough. Or maybe you're just going through it. Life happens, and sometimes you need a good cry. No judgment.
If you're feeling down and out, here are a few places where you can let it all out in the Bayou City.
🛫 Hobby Airport's aircraft viewing lot: Park near the end of a runway and watch planes take off. Your sorrows will likely be drowned out by the roaring jet engines.
🅿️ Galleria parking lot: Nothing says "I'm in my feelings" like full-on sobbing in a mazelike underground pit of despair. Bonus points if it's raining.
🏃➡️ Memorial Park: Relish in your poetic cry, surrounded by trees and fresh air. Plus, the runners will blur past you, too busy to notice.
🙏 Rothko Chapel: Practically designed for a release, enjoy a silent cry here. People will think you're moved by the art.
🔈 Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern: Embrace a dramatic cry that echoes in the darkness.
🍨 The ice cream section of your local H-E-B: In the fluorescent, frigid aisle, wallow while debating which Ben & Jerry's flavor feels most fitting for your mood.
In all seriousness, heartaches and breakups are hard.
What they're saying: "Breakups can sometimes feel like a trauma, but we can have post-traumatic growth," said Dr. Peggy H. Yang, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Baylor College of Medicine.
- Heartbreak can also exacerbate other mental health issues, like depression and anxiety. Yang says to seek a clinical assessment if things don't improve.
The bottom line: Feel all your feelings.
- "We want to heal and be in an even better place after we've gone through it," Yang said.
