Buffalo Bayou Mural Festival to debut with live art and competitions

Context: Artist and event founder Jose "Meenr" Arredondo wanted to host a festival to bring together artists to collectively create art and learn from each other.

• Planning began in March, and he invited both local and international artists to come together and create.

The mural festival kicks off Friday with an art battle between Texas artists and their international counterparts.

• On Saturday, artists will work on a Buffalo Bayou-themed mural at co-working space Headquarters Houston and the neighboring Valero. There will be live music, a car show and food and drink vendors.
• A Q&A session is scheduled for Sunday as the artists complete the mural.

What they're saying: "The dream and the mission is to have something from artists for other artists. We want people in these communities and in these artistic spaces to learn from one another," Iris Karami, a coordinator of the festival, tells Axios.

• "And it's a free public experience, too. Anyone can come and watch these murals being painted and tune into the events."
