Houstonian Gabby Metoyer kicked off her winning streak by correctly guessing Beyoncé's "Texas Hold 'Em" on the game show "Press Your Luck" and took home nearly $300,000 in cash and prizes.
State of play: Former Fort Bend ISD student Metoyer brought her mom, Ermita Metoyer, an educator at FBISD, to the ABC show where she experienced a rollercoaster of highs and lows — racking up money, losing it all and winning it back.
How it works: Contestants answer trivia questions to earn "spins" on a randomly cycling game board where there are prizes and cash, along with "Whammy," a cartoon that wipes your earnings.
High stakes: When given the option to continue and win $1 million, she stayed grounded, took her mom's advice and decided not to press her luck any further.
Gabby Metoyer walked away with $199,000 in cash and $100,000 in personalized prizes, including an ultimate birthday bash for 100 guests at a "sprawling Houston mansion" and a year of fitness sessions with an elite personal trainer.
Fun fact: Metoyer and her mother were not even allowed to tell their family how she fared on the show until it aired over the summer.
What's next: Metoyer is holding onto her day job as a consultant for Veterans Affairs while carefully managing her winnings. She plans to "take a big chunk out" for her student loans and purchase her own home, according to an FBISD news release.
However, we may see her on TV again, this time to win love, as Metoyer's interested in becoming a contestant on "The Bachelor."
