Hispanic Heritage Month brings Houston several opportunities to celebrate and reflect on the city's history of Latino struggle and triumph.
The big picture: The month lasts from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 nationwide to honor Latinos' contributions to America.
- It also coincides with the anniversaries of several Central American countries' independence.
In Houston, there are plenty of chances to celebrate across town.
- Here are a few of our favorites:
⚾ Hang out at the Hispanic Heritage Street Festival outside Minute Maid Park before the Astros take on the Los Angeles Angels on Sept. 21.
- Tickets to the game, which start at $19, are required for entry to the festival. The festival is from 3–6pm, with first pitch at 6:10pm. The first 10,000 fans in the stadium will get a free Astros sugar skull bobblehead.
- The Astros are also giving away a José Altuve "Los Astros" replica jersey to the first 10,000 fans at the game Sept. 20 and a wearable "Los Astros" flag to the first 10,000 fans Sept. 22.
