Voters have plenty on their minds today. Pain at the pump is probably near the top.
Why it matters: Metro Detroit gas prices have climbed more than 50% over the past year, adding to voters' broader concerns about the cost of food, utilities and other necessities.
By the numbers: The average price of regular gasoline in metro Detroit reached $4.53 per gallon on Nov. 1, up from $2.99 a year earlier, per GasBuddy.
That's 41 cents above the national average of $4.12. A year ago, Detroit prices were slightly below the national average.
Local prices peaked at $4.84 in May before falling over the summer and climbing again this fall.
