Lions defense gets a Kerby Joseph boost

Why it matters: Detroit's defense is getting healthier as the Lions prepare for a critical stretch of the season, starting with Sunday's showdown against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings.

• Joseph's progress comes days after fellow star safety Brian Branch made his season debut following a torn Achilles. He promptly intercepted a pass in Sunday's 20-17 win over Green Bay.

Zoom in: The Lions have sorely missed their dynamic safety duo, particularly Joseph, who led the NFL with nine interceptions in 2024 before signing a record-setting four-year, $86 million extension.

• His lingering knee problems had raised serious questions about whether he would play again. But Joseph has passed every rehab test so far and is expected to return before Thanksgiving, according to the Free Press.

What's next: Joseph won't play Sunday, when Detroit (4-2) hosts the undefeated Minnesota Vikings (6-0) at 1pm at Ford Field.

💭 Joe's thought bubble: Maybe this is the Lions' version of a trade deadline move.
