Last week, Axios Detroit asked readers to weigh in on how they're feeling about Michigan's upcoming midterms, which have been driving a lot of anxiety. Thanks to all who responded!
- Nearly three-quarters of the 24 respondents said they're voting absentee, versus about 17% on Election Day and 13% early in person.
- Here's a selection of what you wrote, edited for brevity and clarity:
Ron V., voting absentee: "Enthusiastic based on early reporting for voter turnout. Hoping for continued nice weather to encourage people to get out and vote."
Christine R., voting absentee: "Feeling hopeful that this country is ready to return to sanity and decency, but am convinced the dictator in charge will absolutely make the next 3-4 months a living hell for all of us …"
Paul L., voting absentee: "I'm feeling excited and patriotic to vote absentee, and dropped off at the local city's ballot box. I will not send my absentee ballot via postal service. I do not trust the postal service."
Anonymous, voting on Election Day: "Relieved election day is arriving but also a bit nervy. Besides all the ballot decisions, I'm mostly concerned with the prospect of election monitors at my Detroit polling place."
Pat K., voting absentee: "Nervous."
Jeffrey D., voting absentee: "Excited."
Angela B., voting on Election Day: "Nervous. I am afraid that there will be voter intimidation and cheating."
Kurt S., voting on Election Day: "Disillusioned."
Claire G., voting early in person: "I am excited to see new, young blood — candidates with new ideas to ignite a better life for Michiganders … We desperately need a form of universal healthcare, and for the love of all that is good, get dark money the hell out of our elections. I want to see every iota of MAGA influence and politicking, gone for good … I feel incredibly passionate and optimistic for an enormous Blue Wave."
