PR exec aims to drive Honda Accord 1 million miles

• At first, he thought the listing said 624 miles. In reality, he just missed the "K."
• Instead of scaring him off, the mileage pulled him in.

Context: Near, president of Near Perfect Media, was 16 in 1997 and drove an Accord as his first car. He paid $2,850 for this one, shipped it from Virginia and immediately took it to Tamaroff Honda in Southfield for a full inspection.

The intrigue: The engine and transmission appear to be original.

• Ryan Seidler, Tamaroff's service director, reviewed the previous dealership records and tells Axios he found no indication either was replaced.
• Records show years of meticulous maintenance.
• "It's definitely an outlier," Seidler says, but Hondas reaching 300,000, 400,000 or even 500,000 miles with good maintenance aren't unheard of.

What they're saying: Near isn't trying to prove anything with the car.

• "I just think it deserves it," he says.
• He's driving it regularly, including trips up north, and plans to keep piling on miles while staying on top of maintenance.

What's next: A million miles.

• Seidler thinks it's achievable.
