Detroit sends out absentee ballots

By the numbers: About 85,000 of the city's roughly 101,000 absentee ballots had been mailed as of Monday morning, according to Detroit Votes, the city's nonpartisan voter information campaign.

• The remaining ballots are expected to go out early this week.

What they're saying: Election officials are encouraging voters to return completed ballots as soon as possible, including through 38 secure drop boxes across the city.

What's next: Michigan's nine-day statewide early voting period begins Oct. 24, giving Detroiters another way to cast a ballot before Election Day on Nov. 3.
