Final Rocket Classic begins Thursday

The Rocket Classic is getting the sendoff it deserves.
Why it matters: The final edition tees off Thursday at Detroit Golf Club with perhaps its strongest field yet.
Between the lines: This will be fans' last chance at a local PGA Tour event for the foreseeable future. The tour announced Tuesday the Rocket Classic's replacement next year in Napa, Calif.
Know before you go:
- ⛳ When: Tournament play runs Thursday through Sunday, with gates opening at 6:45am the first two days and 7:15am on the weekend.
- 🚗 Parking: Don't plan on driving to DGC. General parking is only available at shuttle lots in Southfield (Lawrence Tech) and Troy (Oakland Mall), so budget extra travel time.
- 🚕 Skip the shuttle? Rideshare users can be dropped off and picked up at the Palmer Park Community Building, 1121 Merrill Plaisance St.
- 🎒 Pack light: Review the tournament's bag policy before heading out. Bags smaller than 6"-by-6"-by-6" are among those allowed.
- 🎶 Stick around: New this year, The Range presented by Bedrock offers drinks, a cigar lounge, live music, face painting and caricature artists.
State of play: The field is loaded with major champions and many of the world's top-ranked players, headlined by Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark and former champion Rickie Fowler.
👀 Rising star: Jackson Koivun arrives in Detroit as one of golf's hottest young players after winning last week's 3M Open. The 21-year-old held off world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler for his first PGA Tour victory in just his third professional start.
One more thing: Elementary and middle school-aged kids can meet PGA Tour players and learn golf fundamentals at a free First Tee - Greater Detroit youth clinic Wednesday from 4-5:30pm at the DGC member driving range. No ticket or parking pass is required.
