Michigan primary debate week begins

"Debate week" starts Tuesday, with candidates for governor and U.S. Senate set to square off on statewide TV ahead of the Aug. 4 primary.

Why it matters: There are plenty of local current events to tackle — from widespread power outages frustrating households across Metro Detroit to the ongoing saga of the Gordie Howe International Bridge's delayed opening.

📺 Here's the schedule:

Tuesday: WOOD-TV hosts a Democratic U.S. Senate debate at 7pm, featuring Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens after Mallory McMorrow exited the race.
Wednesday: WJBK-TV (Fox 2) airs a Republican gubernatorial debate at 7:30pm with Mike Cox, John James and Perry Johnson, per the Detroit News.
Thursday: WOOD-TV returns with a second GOP gubernatorial debate featuring Cox, James and Johnson at 7pm.

How to watch: Debates on the Grand-Rapids-based WOOD-TV will air locally on CBS Detroit.
