Independence Day lands on the weekend this year, so there's no shortage of celebrations around Metro Detroit.
State of play: Whether you're looking for fireworks, baseball or a different perspective on the holiday, we've got you covered.
🎼 Salute to America: Greenfield Village's annual patriotic tradition returns Thursday through Sunday with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, historical performers, food trucks and a fireworks finale celebrating America's 250th anniversary.
🌳 Belle Isle: The city's island park is always a hot summer holiday destination. Visitors have their choice of family activities, picnics, the aquarium, riverfront views, hiking and more.

✊ A different reflection: The Shrine of the Black Madonna hosts its annual "Not Our Independence Day" program Saturday, with a concert and recitation of Frederick Douglass' speech, "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?"
🌮 Taco time: Royal Oak Taco Fest returns from Friday to Sunday for tacos, live music, lucha libre wrestling and family-friendly entertainment in downtown Royal Oak.
