CPA Building on the market again in Corktown

• Zalkin cited Ford's "incredible" work activating the train station as part of its Corktown mobility campus.

Catch up quick: After plans to get the property redeveloped didn't come to fruition over the years, the hundred-year-old CPA Building secured a historic district designation earlier this year.

• An affiliate of New York-based Sequoia Property Partners, of which Zalkin is head of real estate investments, bought it in 2014 for $900,000.
• The company recently sought to sell it in 2024 for an undisclosed price and then $9.9 million, according to Crain's.

Zoom in: The CPA Building is listed individually or as a collection with three smaller, nearby buildings, with asking prices between $562,500 and $770,000.

What they're saying: Zalkin says he's "optimistic that this will draw some interest and these properties will be brought back to life."

Friction point: Critics see the owners as prominent speculators — those who sit on property in order to maximize profits.

• Zalkin outlined previous plans for the site, saying that "there's just only so many folks out there that could undertake a development of that size, and we had a lot of people looking at it, but nobody serious about really doing a larger mixed-use development."
• He added that a hotel group was interested, but COVID-19 was a barrier.
