When are off-leash dogs OK?

• More people and pets are out enjoying parks and trails — and not all dog owners are equally responsible.

💭 My thought bubble: It's a controversial topic and a nuanced conversation — off-leash dogs can be fine, until they're not. And sometimes they really, really aren't.

• For me, it's about respecting the environment around you, and not assuming any person or dog is fine with your dog being near them.

For example: A crowded trail in a popular park like Belle Isle? Probably not a great place for off-leash shenanigans.

Reality check: State law requires that dogs be leashed in public, unless for hunting or other work purposes. More nuanced rules can vary by city.
