👋 Annalise here, reporting breaking news of a $5 breakfast burrito at a cute, sunlit cafe in Hubbard Farms.
The vibe: The Grand Porter toes the line between coffee shop and breakfast eatery.
- The new spot features a small but curated menu, while retaining enough table space for remote work.
- Comfortable chairs and plenty of outlets frame a space where neighbors seem to chat with strangers — especially at the big community-style table in the front.
- The interior design isn't very eclectic, but there is an unusually attractive self-pour water station.
Dig in: The food was unique enough to recommend to friends, and the prices weren't bad in comparison to some other new cafes.
- I had a passion fruit bun ($5.50), the burrito ($4.72) and an oat latte ($5.25).
The intrigue: The owner of Cafe Sous Terre — the below-ground Midtown joint with both morning coffee and evening DJs — opened the Grand Porter in late 2025 and is on a five-year lease, per Crain's.
- The redeveloped property, owned by a couple living in Hubbard Farms, is a 1894 home attached to a retail building that used to be a candy store.
