Food trucks return downtown for 14th season

Downtown's food truck scene, with more than 80 vendors in rotation, returned this week to Cadillac Square for its 14th season.

Why it matters: The trucks draw big lunchtime crowds downtown each spring and summer.

State of play: The weekday lunchtime program runs 11am-3pm through Oct. 9, with additional appearances tied to major events like the Detroit Grand Prix and holiday celebrations.

What to expect: A wide range of cuisines — from tacos to Greek to Asian fare — with seating in and around Campus Martius and Cadillac Square for an open-air experience.

The latest: A mix of new and returning food trucks are on tap this season.

New: Detroit Panzerotti Co., founded by a former Buscemi's party store owner, serves Detroit-style pizza, calzones and Italian street food.
Returning: CIA Cheesesteak Institute of America and Island Noodles, known for its Hawaiian-style stir-fry.

More trucks in the coming weeks include Mr. Creole, Nu Deli, Old Shillelagh, Rollin Stone Wood Fire Pizza and Tacobachis, per the Downtown Detroit Partnership.
