Lions trade David Montgomery to Houston

Running back David Montgomery, half of Detroit's "Sonic and Knuckles" rushing duo, has been traded to the Houston Texans, ESPN reports.

Why it matters: Montgomery and speedster Jahmyr Gibbs, aka "Sonic," gave Detroit one of the league's most potent running attacks during Montgomery's three years on the team.

Between the lines: Detroit patched up its offensive line with the move.

The Lions are receiving offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, a 2026 fourth-round draft pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick, per ESPN.

The bottom line: The Lions have significant roster rebuilding to do this offseason.
