Michigan hockey stars lift U.S. to gold

All four Americans on the ice yesterday during the United States' gold medal-winning goal call Michigan home.

Why it matters: Michigan's hockey heritage will forever be remembered as part of the 2-1 overtime win against the favored Canadians.

Catch up quick: Canada dominated much of the game, but the U.S. kept it close until Canton's Jack Hughes buried the game-winner in overtime.

• The other two Americans on the ice (the teams played three-on-three in OT) are also from Michigan.
• Goalie Connor Hellebuyck, who stopped 41 of 42 shots, is from Commerce.
• Dylan Larkin, who got on the ice right before Hughes' shot, hails from Waterford, played at Michigan and is the Red Wings' captain.

Hughes' brother, Quinn, also played for the U.S. Olympic team.

• The brothers were born in Orlando and grew up in Toronto before the family moved to Michigan to pursue their hockey talents through the U.S. National Team Development Program in Plymouth.

What they're saying: "We're USA. We're so proud to be Americans. Tonight was all for the country," Jack Hughes said after the win.
