City Chatter: New faces and titles in Detroit government

🌨️ Emergency conditions: Sheffield spent much of her first month in office navigating extreme cold and snow conditions, activating rec centers for warmth as well as partner organizations offering overnight shelter beds.

💼 New faces: While Sheffield kept some communications staff from former Mayor Mike Duggan, including media relations director John Roach, she also made new hires like Jamie Kaye Walters, a former WDIV Local 4 program director and co-founder of public relations firm VVK.

• As senior director of mayor's office communications, she'll oversee Sheffield's strategy to spread word of the city's work, market Detroit and communicate with stakeholders and potential partners, according to a press release.

👋 Goodbye, group exec: While Duggan used the term "group executive" for high-level roles, Sheffield has opted for "chief." For example: Luke Shaefer, chief executive of health, human services and poverty solutions.

💬 Input sought: Sheffield's Rise Higher transition team will host citywide sessions for residents to share concerns and priorities for the new administration. There's also an online survey.
