100 years of Black History Month: Metro Detroit events to know

• Here are local events to check out:

🏠 The Henry Ford: Programming throughout the month includes daily Black history guided tours at 1pm, a vendor market 10am-3:30pm Feb. 14 and an arts feature day with live performances Feb. 15.

• The museum is also opening an exhibition Feb. 7 to preview Greenfield Village's June opening of the Dr. Sullivan and Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson Home.
• That home, where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and other leaders gathered for civil rights planning, is being relocated from Selma, Alabama.

🛍️ Book sale: Detroit Book City hosts its 10th annual African American Family Book Expo noon-5pm Feb. 21 with free admission at 24230 W. McNichols Road.

🖼️ Detroit Institute of Arts: The DIA has 16 events on tap throughout the month, ranging from musical performances, art making and various film screenings to a Black History Month professional development workshop for teachers on Saturday.

📚 Detroit Public Library: Expect free events across February, like a Black women and documentary film series at the Sherwood Forest Branch at 3pm Thursdays; various craft activities across the city; a presentation on the legacy of inventor Claude Harvard 1-3pm Saturday at the main branch; and a four-part history presentation on Detroit's labor movement 1-3pm Feb. 28 at the main branch.

🦐 Cooking class: Take a Black History Month cooking class in Eastern Market with Evelyn's Midtown Kitchen. Chef Evelyn Stokes shares her history spending summers in Louisiana, and building family bonds and cultural identity through food.
